Juan J. Hernández-Guerrero is a portrait photographer and mixed media artist of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent whose practice blends painting and photography. After completing his military service for the U.S. Army and earning veteran status, he chose to further develop his creative voice by pursuing a BFA in Photography at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Juan is an active researcher investigating masculinity and identity through visual self-analysis. Recently, Juan was recognized as a McNair Scholar, allowing for the creation of "Framing Expression," a photographic workshop for developing visual communication skills for Veterans. This project was later presented at the 34th annual undergraduate research symposium at RIT. Juan serves as a student assistant at RIT, where he continues to build his mentoring and leadership skills.
At its core, Juan’s work centers on connection—first with the self, then with others. He explores how personal growth can lead to deeper more intentional relationships through photography. His practice focuses on evolving into a grounded, emotionally present version of oneself.
